십자말풀이(Crossword)는 십자말풀이 판의 모양을 연상시키는 탈네모꼴 글꼴입니다. 게임판의 네모 칸을 닮은 픽셀이 모여 가로와 세로로 교차하며 자소를 형성합니다. 글자의 기둥 높이가 고정된 채로, 초성과 종성의 높낮이가 오르락내리락 변화하며 리드미컬한 인상을 주는 것이 특징입니다. 교차되는 단어들이 많아질수록 복잡해지고 커지는 십자말풀이 판처럼, 각 자음은 한글 가획의 원리를 따라 획이 더해질수록 높이와 너비가 변하게 디자인했습니다. 2025년 한글꼴연구회 가을전 《다람쥐 헌 쳇바퀴에 타고파》의 일환으로 제작된 십자말풀이는 2026년 한글 11,172자, 로마자 52자, 기호 활자 148자를 지원하는 서체로 정식 출시되었습니다.

Crossword is a non-squared Hangul typeface that evokes the shape of a crossword puzzle grid. Pixels resembling the puzzle's square cells gather and intersect horizontally and vertically to form letter components. The height of each vowel's vertical stroke stays fixed, while the initial and final consonants rise and fall, creating a rhythmic impression. Crossword was created for 《다람쥐 헌 쳇바퀴에 타고파》, the 2025 fall exhibition of Hangulggol, and was officially released in 2026 as a complete typeface supporting 11,172 Hangul syllables, 52 Roman letters, and 148 symbol characters.

십자말풀이는 가로와 세로로 교차된 빈칸에 단어를 채워 넣는 낱말 퍼즐이다. 각 칸에는 작은 번호가 붙어 있는데, 이 번호는 ‘가로 몇 번’, ‘세로 몇 번’처럼 문제와 짝지어져 어느 단어를 채워야 하는지 알려준다. 풀이자는 주어진 가로 힌트와 세로 힌트를 보고 정답을 추리해 한 칸에 한 글자씩 적어 넣는다. 이때 가로 단어와 세로 단어는 특정 칸에서 서로 교차하기 때문에, 그 칸에는 두 단어에 공통으로 들어가는 글자를 써야 한다. 즉 한쪽 단어의 정답이 확실하면 그 글자가 교차하는 다른 단어의 일부 글자를 자동으로 알 수 있어, 힌트가 애매하더라도 교차 관계를 이용해 추리할 수 있다. 모든 흰 칸이 채워지고 가로·세로 단어가 모두 논리적으로 맞아떨어지면 퍼즐이 완성된다.
