Choi Jung-ho Minburi is a body-text sans-serif designed by master Hangeul designer Choi Jung-ho in his later years. It preserves the organic, hand-drawn feel of his original scripts while offering harmonious proportions and generous counter spaces. Distinct from modern sans-serifs, it features the unique "feet" (gup) and "protrusions" (dolgi) characteristic of Choi's aesthetic. AG Choi Jung-ho Minburi Std. was digitized based on 1,058 essential glyphs from the original 1,353 master drawings, supporting 2,574 Hangeul, 298 Latin, and 782 symbols within a 1,000-unit square em-box. Originally released as a single "Regular" weight based on phototypesetting masters, the family has been expanded to "Medium" and "Bold" to enhance practical usability, with plans for a full range from ExtraLight to ExtraBold.

자의성은 근본적으로 원칙보다는 순간적인 기분의 반응에서 나오는데, 이것은 서로 연관된 기준 체계라기보다는 타고난 본성인 듯하다. 변덕스러운 자의성은 개인적인 취향을 선호하기 때문에 어떻게 최소한의 재료로 최대한의 효과를 낼 것인가 하는 합리성을 무시한다. 자의성은 개인적 자유의 개념을 중시해서 공공의식의 윤리와 충돌하고 비상식적인 주관성을 강조하기 위해 객관성의 개념을 배제한다. 모더니즘은 임의적이지도, 그렇다고 독단적이지도 않다. 독단적이라면 디자인은 존재할 수 없기 때문이다. 우리는 원칙과 방법론적인 엄격성을 독단론적인 것과 구별할 줄 알아야 한다. 자유를 선호한 나머지 자의성이라는 미명 아래 원칙을 훼손시키는 일은 잘못된 것이다. 자유란 자유의 존재를 보장해 줄 수 있는 틀 안에 있을 때 존재할 수 있다. 그 반대 개념은 혼란이고 임의적인 것이고 일시적이고 천박한 것이다.

상업적인 디자인은 일시적인 속성 때문에 상스러운 표현들이 난무하는 자의성 속에서 번성한다. 상업성의 탐욕과 무경계 개념 때문에 모든 것이 허용되고 합리화된다. 굴레를 벗어던지는 듯한 기발한 생각이 성공을 가져오고 더 자의적일수록 더 좋아 보이는 것, 이것이 상업적 디자인의 속성인데, 불행한 것은 이러한 디자인이 굿 디자인보다 우리 주변에 더 많다는 사실이다. [비넬리의 디자인 원칙] 안그라픽스 출처

예를 들어 「수브니어」 (Souvenir) 같은 체의 획은 고전적인데 반해 전체의 조형적 뉘앙스만을 현대화시켜, 활자 수요층들의 애로 속에 사용되어지고 있다. 이러한 예를 보면 근래에 와서 글씨체의 개발이 모던하기는 하나 복고적인 영향에 의해 개발을 많이 하는 듯하다. 어차피 활자는 사람의 눈을 즐겁게 해 주고 읽기 쉽게 되어야 한다는 이유 때문에 활자체도 복고 스타일로 화함은 당연한 귀결일지도 모른다. 이러한 시대적인 흐름에 자극을 받아 나는 몇 년 전 한글의 궁서체에 무척 관심을 쏟았다.
