He is currently a professor in the Department of Visual Communication Design at Seoul Women’s University and director of the Type Reading Room. He holds a Master’s degree in Typeface Design from the University of Reading in the UK, a Master’s degree in Typography from the University of Barcelona in Spain, and a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication Design from Seoul National University. Since the late 2000s, he has been exposed to diverse typographic cultures while moving between Spain, the UK, the US, China, and Korea, which has served as the foundation for his research and work. Notably, for six years starting in 2013, he worked as a designer on the font and design teams at Apple’s headquarters in the US, where he was directly or indirectly involved in the design of almost all Latin alphabets, numerals, symbols, and icons used across Apple’s three operating systems: iOS, macOS, and watchOS. Since relocating to Hongik University in Seoul in 2019, he has been combining education with collaborative industry projects, working with companies such as Hyundai and Kakao to design custom fonts for UI or providing consulting on typography in UX environments.
