Clay moves slowly under hand. Coiling begins with a single line — soft, flexible, easily shaped. Layer by layer, it rises, growing taller, gaining weight. Every curve holds the memory of touch. Every line shows the rhythm of making. Stacking is not just a way of building, but a way of recording time — patient, quiet, human. What begins small becomes solid. What feels fragile becomes enduring. Clay remembers everything.

Volume 2 «Objet Type» Nutype’s second project expands fonts beyond the digital landscape into the tactile realm of ceramic crafts—transforming them from mere visual elements into forms that can be physically sensed and experienced while reinterpreting ceramic art within a digital context. The core of this project lies in exploring an unprecedented experiential exchange between these two fields, resulting in three fonts based on distinct characteristics of ceramic art. NU Colloco is inspired by the coiling technique, a fundamental method in ceramic art, featuring serifs that evoke bumpy forms and inverted stroke weights to emphasize the visual effect of stacking. Just as the Latin word ‘colloco’ means ‘to place together’ or ‘to arrange,’ the font is designed to ensure that individual elements harmonize seamlessly.
In coiling, nothing is rushed. Clay is turned, pressed, and gently lifted. Lines wrap around themselves, circling upward. Every layer depends on the one before it — a slow accumulation of shape, care, and balance. The softness of the material meets the firmness of the hand. Mistakes stay visible, traces remain. It is not about perfection, but about presence — building something that feels alive, shaped by both hand and time.
To work with clay is to move in circles — wrapping, layering, pressing, waiting. Coiling transforms soft lines into standing forms. It asks for patience, rhythm, repetition. Hands press memory into the surface. Time builds quietly, without force. Stacking becomes a gesture of care — slow, intentional, human. The final form holds not only shape, but the process of becoming — every mark, every touch, every pause.
