Ultra Bold Gothic originates from the display sans-serif master drawings created by Hangeul designer Choi Jung-ho, characterized by stems so thick they fully occupy the em-square. AG Ultra Bold Gothic is a digital typeface developed through meticulous analysis of these original drawings. The Hangeul design preserves the bold optical weight adjustments, the ink-trap-like 'margin band' phenomena from printing, and the delicate spatial distribution inherent in the original. Following its debut in 2017, the typeface was significantly upgraded in 2019. This updated version expanded the Hangeul character set from 2,574 to 2,783 glyphs, conforming to KS standards and Adobe KR-9 specifications by adding 209 additional characters. Furthermore, the Latin set was broadened to include most European diacritics according to Latin Unicode standards. The symbols were newly crafted to harmonize with the Hangeul, with certain symbols featuring varied stroke weights to suit their specific functions.
