Mano was initially introduced in 1993. Various experiments of three-set modular typefaces were attempted after Ahnsangsoo font, and Mano was one of them. It is a typeface composed of stroke modules. Mano 2014 is an upgraded version of Mano (1993), which was designed by Ahn Sang-soo. First upgrade was preceded in 2007; three weights were derived. Second upgrade was preceded in 2014; five weights were derived. Hangeul, Roman Alphabets, numerals and symbols were visually adjusted. The font was recomposed into a multi-set de-squared type.

한자는 그림과 떼려야 떼려야 뗄 수 없는 관계에 있다. 한자는 자연을 관찰하고 귀납, 정리한 결과물을 그림과 부호로 디자인한 데서 시작되었다. 다만 네모반듯한 글자체로 발전해나가면서 그림이라는 최초의 형식에서 점점 벗어났을 뿐이다. 이런 고대 문자와 부호를 통해 먼 옛날 중국인의 생활 모습과 당시의 자연경관을 추측할 수 있다.

충서의 필획은 뱀이 꿈틀꿈틀 기어가는 듯한 형상을 하고 있다. 가운데는 불룩하고 머리와 꼬리는 뾰족하며 다리를 아래로 길게 늘여뜨린 모습이 구불구불한 벌레의 몸체를 닮아서 충서라 부르게 되었다.

춘추시대 말기 초나라 와자오정에 새겨진 글자를 보면 조서 몇 글자를 제외한 나머지는 대부분 충서이다.
