AG 최정호 순명조 패밀리

〈최정호 순명조〉는 한글 디자이너 최정호가 설계한 돋보임용 부리 글꼴이다. 최정호가 직접 그린 원도 24자를 바탕으로 제작되었으며, 원도의 조형적 특징을 충실히 반영하여 재해석하였다. 정방형 구조를 기반으로 뚜렷한 획대비와 명확한 맺음을 강조한 디자인이 특징이다. 총 5가지 굵기로 설계하여 사용성을 높였으며 굵기에 따라 속공간을 섬세하게 분배하였다. 한글 2,780자, 로마자 339자, 문장 부호를 포함한 기호활자 1,047자를 지원한다.

글자 하나하나에 내 혼이 박힐 정도로 일에 전력을 기울였다. 이때야 한글이 지니는 글자의 생리를 어렴풋이나마 깨닫게 되는 것 같았다. 세로로 쓸 때의 글자의 기둥과 가로로 쓸 때의 글자의 기본을 어디에 두어야 한다는 이치가 잡혀갔다. 나는 완전히 광인이 되었다.

“한글은 나 개인의 소유가 될 수는 없고, 당연히 민족의 소유물이어야 합니다. 헌데 이러한 요령이 수학공식처럼 되어있는 것도 아니고 해서 이야기 하는데 어려움이 있습니다. 미술에 공식이 없는 것과 마찬가지지요. 아무튼 단편적인 요령보다는 기본적인 것이 더 중요합니다.”
